These Mauser rifles were originally issued to front-line military units during active service. Following their primary deployment, many were transferred to police forces and reserve military units for continued use in auxiliary roles. In these secondary capacities, the rifles were often modified by their individual users—resulting in a wide variety of configurations. No two examples are exactly the same, reflecting both the practical needs and personal preferences of their handlers.  Common differences include bolt style, removal of sight hoods, missing or replaced buttplates, and significant variation in stock type and wood grain. These rifles reflect a practical, user-driven approach to maintenance and customization, with each example telling its own story of extended service and adaptation.

The M24/47 is a post World War II update of the earlier M24 series rifles.  These are essentially clones of the German 98k Mauser rifles produced in Yugoslavia beginning in 1924.  After the war, many existing M24's were rebuilt with new barrels and stocks of walnut, teak, or other available hardwood.  Since this project began in 1947, these rebuilds were called M24/47s.  Many of these rifles were redone at the Kragujevac Arsenal (now named Zastava) continuing until the early 1950's.  However, as the newer standard-issue Mauser M48 become available, most of these reconfigured M24/47 rifles saw little use.  As a result, many M24/47's are typically in great condition and are ideal shooters.
