TIPS & TRICKS: How To Clear An AR15 Jam Using TAP-RACK-BANG

It happens to most of us, you've zeroed your AR15 (or your AR15 pistol), you're lining up that perfect shot on target, settle your breathing, hook your trigger finger and squeeze, BANG, line it up again and...nothing. Sometimes the round will just fail to cycle. The quickest (and most likely solution) is to TAP, RACK, BANG. It's one of the first things they teach you at the range during boot camp. Here's the easy and quick 3-step process.

STEP 1: TAP

With your non-firing hand (using the heel), tap the bottom of the magazine. This ensures that the mag is set firmly in the magazine well of the receiver.

STEP 2: RACK

Again, using your non-firing hand, grab the charging handle and pull it all the way back to the rear. Release the handle and let the force of the movement send the bolt home with some ummpph!

STEP 3: BANG

This step is pretty obvious. Reacquire your target and gently pull the trigger. If all has been done correctly, the jam will be cleared and you can resume sending lead down range.
