BakeLite Style Lower Handguard for AK47 & AK74 Pattern Rifles with stamped receivers. Original Bakelite was developed in 1907 by Leo Baekeland in New York in 1907 and was used in a wide variety of applications and has become highly collectible in the firearms market. Atlantic Arms has been working on being able to offer a new US produced alternative to the Old School Bakelite furniture sets. After several years of search & testing we have reached our goals of offering a US Bakelite Style Stock set.The parts are molded from an impact resistant heat stabilized nylon polymer, specially formulated for the firearm industry that is chemical resistant and extremely durable. Our special mold creates the smooth non textured exterior that is similar to the bakelite style sets. Just like the original Bakelite each piece will vary in color tone making each part and individual work of art. Other nice features are heat shield in the front lower handguard. These are US made and will count as US 922 R parts.
The material chosen for this project is a special blend of Nylon & an Ionomer that allows the parts to have great structural integrity at High & Low temperature ranges with out being brittle. The Ionomer is more expensive than the run of the mill nylon & is a DuPont product. We wanted a high quality product that offered reduced weight to the operator. This is the same product that is used in golf balls and creates strength without adding excess weight like calcium or glass filler.
